গতকাল (রবিবার) রাজধানীর একটি হোটেলে বাংলাদেশ উন্নয়ন গবেষণা পরিষদ (বিআইডিএস) আয়োজিত ‘বিআইডিএস ক্রিটিক্যাল কনভার্সেশন-১০১৯’ শিরোনামে দুই দিনব্যাপী সম্মেলনের উদ্বোধনী পর্বে বিশিষ্ট অর্থনীতিবিদ অধ্যাপক ড. ওয়াহিদউদ্দিন মাহমুদ বলেছেন, ব্যাংকিং খাতে বিশ্বমান থেকে সরে আসছে বাংলাদেশ। গবেষণা না করেই ব্যাংকিং খাতে নানা বিষয় শিথিল করা হয়েছে। খেলাপি ঋণের সংজ্ঞায় পরিবর্তন আনা হয়েছে। ফলে খেলাপি নির্ধারণে আন্তর্জাতিক মানদণ্ড হতে সরে এসেছে বাংলাদেশ।
বিআইডিএস এর মহাপরিচালক ড. কে এ এস মুর্শিদের সভাপতিত্বে আয়োজিত উদ্বোধনী পর্বে প্রধান অতিথি ছিলেন, পরিকল্পনামন্ত্রী এম এ মান্নান। সম্মাননীয় অতিথি ছিলেন তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকারের সাবেক উপদেষ্টা অধ্যাপক ড. ওয়াহিদউদ্দিন মাহমুদ, বিশেষ অতিথি ছিলেন পরিকল্পনা কমিশনের সদস্য ড. শামসুল আলম।
উদ্বোধনী পর্বে অধ্যাপক ওয়াহিদ উদ্দিন মাহমুদ আরো বলেন, সুশাসন ও বিনিয়োগ পরিবেশ উন্নত না করতে পারলে বৈষম্য দূর হবে না। তিনি বলেন, স্বাস্থ্য শিক্ষা ও সামাজিক খাতে বাংলাদেশ অভাবনীয় সাফল্য দেখিয়েছে। কিন্তু এসডিজির লক্ষ্য পূরণে এই অর্জনকে টেকসই করতে বিনিয়োগ বাড়াতে হবে। পাশাপাশি সুশাসনের উন্নতি করতে হবে, বিনিয়োগ পরিবেশ উন্নত করতে হবে। উন্নয়নের জন্য মেগা প্রকল্পের অর্থনৈতিক উপযোগিতা নিয়ে গবেষণার আহ্বান জানান তিনি।
